Prof. Iain Watt
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International)
I’m very happy to speak to you today as we celebrate the official confirmation that the Sydney Smart Technology College will start teaching in Qinhuangdao this September. This is a momentous occasion in our partnership with Northeastern University, and the foundation on which we hope to build a lasting, deep and broad relationship.
The Sydney Smart Technology College will offer exciting learning opportunities to students interested in Computer Science & Technology, or in Communication Engineering, or in Applied Statistics. Students will benefit from teaching provided in Qinhuangdao by top-class academics from both Northeastern University and University of Technology Sydney.
They will be taught in the model of the combined strength of Northeastern University’s academic excellence with the unique industry-engaged UTS approach to teaching and learning. Students will also be offered the opportunity to complete their studies at UTS’ iconic campus in the centre of Sydney. Students who complete their studies in Sydney will be awarded bachelor degrees from each university, and subject to academic achievement, pathways by directly into either master's or doctoral courses at UTS.
The partnership between UTS and Northeastern University will go well beyond this teaching and learning collaboration, to include research, innovation and entrepreneurship, including engagement with industry partners in China and Australia.
I'm looking forward to meeting students on campus in Qinhuangdao later this year!
